Grant High Rallies For Fallen Teammate, Wins Playoff Opener 35-0

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — It was a major show of support on Monday for a high-school community reeling from the death of a varsity football player shot and killed on way to the big game.

Senior Jaulon Clavo, known as JJ, wore No. 5 for the Grant High Pacers. He was shot and killed on Friday before a playoff game and a teammate was wounded.

His sudden death was difficult to accept.

"It didn't seem real, because I was just laughing with him, and joking with him earlier," said classmate Johnny Coleman. "It's just sad people this in this community."

His mom led the Pacer football team onto the field before the game.

"This was his home; this field was his home," said Nicole Clavo. "This is his game. This was his game since he was 5 years old and this is where his heart laid."

Football players from high schools across the region also came to pay tribute to Clavo and Grant High School.

Grant High School beat Beyer in the rescheduled playoff opener, 35-0. They will host Granite Bay on Saturday night.
