CHP: Girl, 3, Thrown From Car In Fatal Highway 99 Accident

STOCKTON (CBS13) – An accident along Highway 99 has claimed the life of a 3-year-old girl Friday afternoon.

According to CHP, a 2000 Isuzu rolled over near the Hammer Lane off ramp of northbound Highway 99 after colliding with a 2012 Toyota. The 3-year-old was a passenger in the Isuszu girl and was not restrained. She was thrown out of the car, suffering fatal injuries, CHP says.

Five others - Maria Romero, Eleazar Munoz, a 10-year-old boy, a 9-year-old girl and a 1-year-old girl - were sent to the hospital after the crash. All were inside the Isuzu, with the two passengers inside the Toyota apparently escaping uninjured.

Investigators are trying to figure out why the two cars collided and if drugs or alcohol played a factor.

Traffic along the freeway is slowed due to the number 1 and 2 lanes being closed. Caltrans estimates the lanes to be reopened by 4 p.m.
