Giants Sign 1st-Round Draft Pick RHP Beede

The San Francisco Giants have signed first-round draft pick Tyler Beede to a contract that includes a signing bonus of more than $2.6 million.

Beede was the 14th overall pick in last month's draft. The pitcher met with team officials and Giants manager Bruce Bochy before Friday night's game against Arizona at AT&T Park.

Beede went 8-8 with a 4.05 ERA and struck out 116 in 19 starts while leading Vanderbilt to its first national championship.

In 2013, the right-hander led Division I with a school-record 14 wins.

Beede will fly to Arizona to play in the Rookie League but won't pitch right away. The club plans to have him take part in a conditioning and pitching program before putting him in a game.
