Gas Leak Prompts Evacuations In East Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A natural gas leak has forced the evacuations of people in the area of 39th and H streets in east Sacramento.

The Sacramento Fire Department said in a statement around 12:45 p.m. they are cordoning off the area, which is near Mercy General Hospital. The hospital and Sacred Heart School are being told to shelter in place rather than evacuate.

Sacred Heart School later chose independently to evacuate the school. Police are helping with moving students, Sac Fire says.

A PG&E crew is working to cap the leak.

The fire department urges people to avoid the area.

This is a developing story.
