SACRAMENTO COUNTY - A driver was killed Thursday morning after crashing their vehicle head-on with another vehicle.

According to the CHP, a 53-year-old Galt man was driving the wrong way on Twin Cities near Clay Station Road around 5:30 a.m. when he crashed head-on into a truck. He was killed on impact. The other driver was not badly hurt.

The victim was identified Thursday as Marcus Winkfied. At the time of the crash, he was headed to work at Mule Creek State Prison where he served as an officer.

CDCR spokesperson Alia Cruz issued a statement that reads: "Winkfield was an exemplary officer and integral part of Mule Creek State Prison. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and co-workers. The prison has activated peer support and other services to support staff during this difficult time."
