Fresno Firefighter Who Falls Through Roof Of Home Badly Burned

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Fresno firefighter has been badly burned after falling through a roof while battling a house fire.

Fresno Fire Chief Kerri Donis said the firefighter was hospitalized in critical condition on Sunday after suffering burns on 60 to 70 percent of his body. He said parts of his body had third-degree burns.

Donis said the firefighter, a 25-year veteran of the department, was on the roof of a garage when the roof collapsed.

A witness who used an ax to help cut into the side of the garage to get to the fallen firefighter said he was trapped for one to three minutes.

Joe Reyes told the Fresno Bee that when the firefighter's colleagues pulled him out of the blaze, he was burned from head to toe.
