Fresno Boy Honored For Saving Brother From Being Hit By Vehicle

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A 9-year-old boy in Fresno has been recognized for acting selflessly to push his younger brother out of the way of a suspected hit-and-run driver, allowing the vehicle to hit him instead.

The Fresno Bee reports that Saint Rest Baptist Church on Sunday honored Deshaun Mitchell with a plaque for his bravery. Deshaun pushed his brother out of the way of a driver on Jan. 22 and was hit instead.

He was previously recognized by Valley Children's Hospital after being treated for a broken leg, bruised lungs and swollen left temple.

The driver in the crash was arrested on Feb. 10 and booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run and violating probation.
