Fremont Police K9 Gets Loose, Prompts Search

FREMONT (CBS13) – A young police K9 somehow got out of his yard overnight, prompting an hours-long search Sunday morning.

The Fremont Police Department says "Niko" escaped from a yard in south San Jose at some point between Saturday night and Sunday morning. Teams from both the Fremont and San Jose were soon out looking for Niko.

Police say volunteers also helped out in the search for the K9.

A little before noon, Fremont Police announced that Niko had been found safe in the Guadalupe River creek bed near Almaden Road and Branham Lane.

Niko looks to be in good health, police say, but he's scheduled to be checked out just to make sure.
