Former Oakland Raider Surprises Modesto High School Players With Golden Football

MODESTO (CBS13) — A high-school football team got a surprise on Monday with an award from the National Football League.

While the Downey High School football team gathered to celebrate a successful season, most of the players didn't expect an appearance by Dan Archer. Archer played football for Downey High before playing in Super Bowl II for the Oakland Raiders.

"We had our 64th varsity football team this year so he would've been on one of the first teams that ever played," said coach Jeremy Plaa. "He was a league champion for Downey."

After all these years, the soft-spoken Dan Archer remains a towering man who delivered a big message to the players—get and education and make good decisions.

Archer presented the team with a golden football from the NFL. The league is sending them out to every high school in the country where a Super Bowl player or coach attended.
