Former LA Cadet Files Sex-Abuse Claim Against Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 15-year-old former police cadet authorities say was sexually abused by a veteran Los Angeles officer has filed a claim against the city.

The Los Angeles Times reports the girl, whose name was not released, filed the claim Friday.

Her attorney, Luis Carrillo, says "she needs a lot of therapy."

Thirty-one-year-old Officer Robert Cain was arrested in June.

His attorney declined to comment on the girl's claim. A police spokesman says the department cannot discuss pending litigation.

Cain's arrest resulted after police uncovered a scandal in which cadets were joyriding in police cars, using stun guns and other equipment and impersonating officers.

The scandal came to light after cadets crashed two police cruisers.

Police Chief Charlie Beck says the department is reviewing the cadet program.
