Sacramento Freeways Reopen Following Closures Due To Fires, High Winds

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Interstates 5 and 80 are back open in both directions in north Natomas after a strong wind-whipped grass fire created quite a mess of traffic and smoke.

The closures happened just north of Arena Boulevard near Sleep Train Arena and high winds made things difficult for fire crews as they dealt with a number of spot fires in the area.

Northbound Interstate 5 was closed at Interstate 80 and southbound at Highway 99.

Interstates 5 and 80 were both closed in both directions in the area, the CHP reports.

Traffic delays are still expected for the time being, although both freeways have since reopened.
