Firefighters Save Carmichael Family's Prized Corvette Stingray From Fire
CARMICHAEL (CBS13) – A fire at a Carmichael home may have torn through a family's home Saturday afternoon, but firefighters did their best to save as much as they could – including a cherished classic car.
According to the Sacramento Metro Fire Department, crews were called to the 6200 block of Meadowvista Drive for a quickly escalating house fire.
Crews responding to the scene were immediately told by a neighbor that an elderly man could be trapped inside, so an aggressive search began along with the fire attack.
Metro Fire Captain Michelle Eidam said that no one was found after a thorough search of every room, but a man who identified himself as a resident of the home later came forward. He was not home at the time of the fire, Eidam said.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the home, but the home suffered significant damage to its back porch and attic. Further, crews noted moderate damage to the home's living quarters.
During the fire, Eidam said, firefighters prevented a 1970 Corvette Stingray parked at the home from being damaged by moving it out of the garage – while the fire fight was still going on.
No firefighters or residents were hurt in the fire, but damage estimates were put at around $100,000. About $150,000 in property was saved, Eidam noted.
