Firefighters' Hockey Game Benefits Firefighter With Brain Injury

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Sacramento-area firefighters were on ice today to help out one of their own.

The Sacramento Fire Hockey Club held their 2nd annual Red vs. White Charity Hockey Match.

Sacramento firefighters, along with people from other local fire departments, raised money for fellow fire fighter Eric Williams, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in January.

"The fundraisers are helping Eric and his family just deal with the day-to-day trials that go with surviving a traumatic brain injury," said Dennis Wycoff, Division Chief.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to help Williams with his ongoing recovery.

Williams was running on Folsom Lake Crossing on January 8 when he was hit by a cyclist riding downhill and suffered major head trauma.

The cyclist was also treated at the hospital for his injuries, and did not face criminal charges in connection with the crash.

Today is Williams' birthday.
