Fired Crater Lake Park Cook Gets Prison After Drunken Fight With Rangers

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - A former cook for the concessionaire at Crater Lake National Park has been sentenced to a year-and-a-half in prison for a fight with rangers after he was fired.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 47-year-old John Charles Saubert was fired last September over alcohol and performance issues, and got in a fight with rangers after refusing to behave himself and stay in his dorm room until he left the next day.

Authorities say after an initial court appearance, Saubert left the state, and marshals tracked him down to a resort in Utah, where he was working as a chef.

Brought back to Oregon, he was convicted of forcibly resisting federal officers, and sentenced on Tuesday.
