Fire Engulfs Abandoned West Sacramento Home

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - An abandoned house went up in flames early New Year's morning.

The scene was along the 200 block of 5th Street. Firefighters were called out to the scene just before 2 a.m. and found that the house was fully engulfed.

Firefighters say the roof of the house collapsed during the fire. The fact that the house was boarded up complicated the firefight, but firefighters soon found a couple of open doors and made their attack.

"It's not a normal street side address and so the crews - when they first came in - they could see they had a fire, but trying to figure out good access was an issue," said West Sacramento Fire Department Battalion Chief John Muir.

The house is abandoned, but neighbors say squatters have been living in the home the last few months.
