Fire Destroys Sacramento Apartment, No Working Smoke Alarms Found

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Firefighters say no working smoke alarm was found in an apartment that caught fire late Saturday morning.

A total of four units of an apartment complex near Eleanor Avenue and Del Paso Boulevard were affected by the fire. Firefighters called for a second alarm once they reached the scene after finding heavy smoke at a downstairs apartment.

Crews were able to douse the flames, but not before one apartment was destroyed.

Not only did the apartment that caught fire not have smoke alarms, firefighter say, other apartments at the complex either did not have detectors or the detectors were in the wrong place and didn't have batteries.

No one was hurt in the fire or firefight. How the fire was sparked is not clear at this time, but arson investigators have reportedly been called to the scene.
