Female Inmate Found Dead In Solano County Jail

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in Northern California are investigating the death of a female inmate who was found unresponsive inside her cell.

The woman was found unconscious Monday afternoon in her cell at the Justice Center Detention Facility in Fairfield.

Solano County Sheriff's office spokeswoman Deputy Christine Castillo says correctional staff performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Castillo says the woman was seen alive during a routine cell check about an hour before the medical emergency.

She says the woman's death appeared to be suicide but she declined to elaborate, saying the Solano County District Attorney's office was investigating the circumstances of the death.

The inmate's name, age and why she was in jail were not immediately released pending notification of her family.
