Father Stabbed In Front Of Child In San Jose Road Rage Attack

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Police say a man was stabbed many times outside his car as his 5-year-old child sat in the backseat in an apparent incident of road rage.

San Jose Police spokesman Sgt. Enrique Garcia says the injured man, a 36-year-old San Jose resident, was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive.

The San Jose Mercury News reports 21-year-old Travis David Painter, also of San Jose, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon but he says he was defending himself.

Garcia says the incident happened Thursday in a quiet residential neighborhood after the unidentified injured driver followed Painter to his home. He says they got into a fight and Painter pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man, who staggered back to his car, where his 5-year-old son was still sitting.

The child was not harmed.
