Father-Daughter Duo In Woodland Who Restores Cars Targeted By Scammers

WOODLAND (CBS13) - A Woodland father-daughter duo who restores classic cars as their hobby together are speaking out about being targeted in an alleged case of fraud.

Eleven-year-old Makiah Wells and her father, Kirby Wells, were searching for their next project when they responded to an online ad and the seller requested an upfront payment using eBay cards.

Kirby Wells called the Yolo County District Attorney's Office.

The D.A. sent out an alert to Yolo County residents warning of scams like this seeking payment upfront before seeing the cars in person.

"What we're seeing now more than ever is that they can influence anyone in any different part of the country," Yolo D.A. enforcement officer Kevin Clark said.

Investigators were unable to track the identity of the seller in this case. The D.A.'s office says these scammers usually offer to ship vehicles at no cost, but there is never any delivery.
