Fallen Deputies Mentioned In Donald Trump Immigration Plan

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — During Tuesday night's speech in Phoenix, Donald Trump used the names of two local fallen deputies to push his immigration plan.

An expert believes Trump's immigration policy will put the country in jeopardy.

"They will have one route and one route only -- to return home and apply for re-entry like everybody else," Donald Trump said during his speech.

This time, the Republican presidential nominee focused on two local sheriff's deputies who were killed allegedly by Luis Bracamontes, an illegal immigrant.

"The Davis-Oliver Bill will enhance cooperation with state and local authorities to ensure that criminals and terrorists are swiftly, really swiftly identified and removed," Trump added.

Bracamontes had been deported four times leading up to the 2014 shootings.

Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones recorded a Youtube video in 2014 just after the murders pleading for President Obama to act on immediate immigration reform.

"I will get on a plane tomorrow and travel to Washington and help you with whatever I possibly can. This issue is that important to me," Sheriff Jones said in the video.

On Thursday, Sheriff Jones responded to Trump's plan in a written statement saying, "it is essential that we secure our borders and come up with a permanent solution to the immigration crisis facing our nation."

"It's not policy, its political pandering," said Tiffani Sharp, a Sacramento-based immigration attorney.

Sharp says kicking illegal immigrants out and building a wall is not a solution.

She went on to say most of the immigrants she's worked with are model citizens who just want to live the American dream.

Calling Trump's immigration policy a huge leap backwards, Sharp added "it'll be the beginning of the end and the downfall of our country."

Bracamontes is currently behind bars according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

His trial is set to begin in March of 2017.
