Uncle Suspected Of DUI Arrested After Fatal Hit-And-Run Claims Life Of 2-Year-Old Nephew In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) — A man suspected of a DUI was arrested after a fatal hit-and-run crash claimed the life of his 2-year-old nephew in Fairfield on Sunday, authorities said.

The Fairfield Police Department said Fairfield resident Cirilo Martinez Tellez, 32, ran from the scene of the deadly crash that happened just after 2 p.m. on the 1400 block of W Texas Street. Officers said they recovered his vehicle and said they believe, based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, that Tellez was driving drunk.

Police said responding personnel found that Tellez had hit a 2-year-old child, later confirmed to be his nephew. The child was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Fairfield PD said Tellez was on the run for approximately four hours but later returned to the scene at around 6 p.m. and was arrested. No other injuries were reported.

Tellez will be booked into the Solano County Jail and face charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run causing death, authorities said.

Fairfield PD said they will present a case to the county district attorney for review to consider adding additional charges of murder, felony DUI causing death and violation of probation.
