Facebook Apologizes For Power-Guzzling iPhone App, Releases Fix

MENLO PARK (CBS) — Has your iPhone's battery been draining faster than normal lately? A Facebook app could be the culprit.

A Facebook spokesman says the company has received numerous reports lately from users claiming their app has been causing phones to go through battery power at an alarming rate.

It turns out the users are right.

An engineer at the social networking juggernaut wrote recently the company has been investigating users' complaints and acknowledged the app is using "more battery than intended."

The engineer says one reason for this is audio sessions for videos were playing even after users left the app.

In a statement, Facebook said downloading the latest version of the app should fix the issue.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused," engineer Ari Grant said. "We are committed to continuing to improve the battery usage of our app and you should see improvements in the version released today."
