Elk Grove Woman Shocked To Find Missing Dog For Sale On Craigslist

ELK GROVE (CBS13) — An Elk Grove woman says someone picked up her lost dog and tried to sell it on Craigslist.

Ella thought her dog was just missing until she found an ad on Craigslist with a picture of her dog. She said the seller refused to return her emails, so CBS13 decided to set up a meeting of our own.

Her four-legged family member has an outfit for every season, including Halloween. Ella calls her Pomeranian named Paige one of her kids.

"We've had her for 8 years. She's not just a dog; she's not just a pet; she's family," she said.

So when Paige slipped out of an open garage door, Ella covered her Elk Grove neighborhood with flyers, desperate to find her lost dog.

Imagine her shock when Ella says she found Paige posted for sale the very next day on Craigslist: $500 or best offer.

"I've been emailing this person to please return my dog, no questions asked," she said.

Email after email to the Craigslist seller went unanswered.

"If you have a heart, you don't do this to anybody," she said.

We wanted to help, so we set up an email account and asked if the Pomeranian was still for sale. The response was an immediate yes. The seller said they didn't have papers for the dog, and we set up a time to meet at a Sacramento Starbucks.

Ella had high hopes she would see her dog again.

But just minutes before the meeting, we got an email from the seller saying they had already sold it.

Ella was devastated to learn there would be no reunion.

"They're cruel," she said. "Whoever did this, you're evil."

But this story has a happy ending. Moments before the story aired, Paige was found not far from where our meeting was set up. She didn't have her tags or collar, so it appears the dog was just dropped off.
