ELK GROVE – A crash left two people dead in Elk Grove early Tuesday morning, police said.

Elk Grove police said officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Waterman Road, near Elliot Springs Drive, just after 5 a.m. Investigators believe the driver, a 21-year-old man, lost control and then crashed into a light pole.

Both the driver and a passenger, a 21-year-old woman, died at the scene, police said.

The two were identified as Leiver Montiel Munoz and Tamara Gutierrez, according to the Sacramento County Coroner's Office.
