Sacramento Walmart Evacuated After Flare Gun Goes Off During Suspected Shoplifting

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Walmart was evacuated after a flare gun went off during a confrontation with staff and a suspected shoplifter.

The incident at the Gerber Road location is described as a shoplifting gone bad after an inventory control worker confronted a juvenile suspect. At some point, the flare gun went off in the store, according to sheriff's department officials.

The smoke from the flare gun activated the store's fire alarms. Investigators are searching for the suspect.

It's unclear whether the flare gun was taken from the store, or if the juvenile brought it with him. The store's website lists one flare gun boasting "instant signaling power" with four flares included as being available.
