Elk Grove Violin Prodigy Getting International Exposure

ELK GROVE (CBS13) – Anthony Trujillo knows about commitment.

"It took me a number of years. Just constant practice day and night," Trujillo says.

He picked up a violin for the first time as a toddler.

"I was not keen to wasting time with any of those frivolous toys or anything equivalent to that," Trujillo says.

Now at 17-years-old, this Elk Grove High School senior is getting some international opportunities. Last summer, Trujillo traveled with the Carnegie Hall National Youth Orchestra to Europe.

"I would say the one artist I would like to play with in the future would be Michael Bublé," Trujillo says.

Anthony is practicing as early as 4 a.m. and for at least six hours a day.

"A lot of listening, a lot of studying – that part also contributes to being great," Trujillo says.

Trujillo now has his sights set on big things for college.

"The USC Thorton School of music, the Carnegie Melon University and the Julliard School in New York City," Trujillo says.

For now, he'll continue to practice and listen to the music he loves: classical, jazz and a long list of other musicians.

"I like to listen to rock and roll, Huey Lewis and the News, and popular bands like Maroon Five," Trujillo says.

His musical talent is even rubbing off on his younger sister. Both are musically gifted with similar dreams.

"I would like to be at Julliard when I grow up and I would like to be a flute teacher," said Trujillo's sister.

Trujillo performed last weekend at the Music in the Mountains in Grass Valley.
