Box Truck Crash Cuts Power To Thousands In Elk Grove

ELK GROVE (CBS13) - The latest on a power outage in Elk Grove on the Fourth of July:

12 p.m.

Only 39 customers remain without power after the crash, according to SMUD.

Full restoration is expected by 3 p.m. Thursday.

At the height of the outage, 11,000 customers were without power.

9:34 a.m.

A box truck crash has cut the power to an Elk Grove neighborhood on Thursday.

The scene is along the 9000 block of Grant Line Road.

Cosumnes Fire officials say a commercial box truck sheared a pole, cutting power to thousands 11,000 SMUD customers initially. As of 9:30 a.m., the number of people without power is near 5,000.

Authorities say full power restoration isn't expected for several more hours.
