Effort To Find Hiker Missing Near Donner Summit Intensifies

DONNER SUMMIT (CBS13) – A Blackhawk helicopter is helping in the search for a Rocklin man missing near Donner Summit since Monday.

Search and rescue crews have already been out since early Wednesday morning looking for any sign of 23-year-old Cody Michael.

The hiker was supposed to return on Monday but never came home.

Crews were out all day Tuesday looking for Michael but came up empty. They say the helicopter will help immensely with the search effort.

"It's a four hour hike to get to the search area, so it will save us some time," Sgt. Ty Conners said.

Authorities have tried tracing Michael by pinging his cellphone, but the location services on the phone are turned off.

Michael's family says he's an experienced hiker and had food and water with him, but now fear he may have gotten hurt and can't reach help.

At least 35 people are out on Wednesday searching for Michael.
