Early-Morning Shooting Rocks Stockton Neighborhood

STOCKTON (CBS13) — A homicide investigation is underway in Stockton. An early-morning shooting has left a 60-year-old man dead and a 63-year-old woman injured.

"I heard literally five shots ...boom boom boom boom boom, then I froze for a minute and heard another 10 shots," said neighbor Natalie Medina.

Just before 6 a.m. Wednesday morning neighbors on the 7300 block of Kelley Drive said they heard a number of gunshots.

Once Stockton Police officers arrived on scene, they found a woman hurt.

"We're still trying to determine if she was actually struck by bullet fragments or pieces of glass," says Joe Silva of the Stockton Police Department.

Shortly after as police canvassed the neighborhood, right next to the woman's home in another backyard they found a 60-year-old man shot and unresponsive. They pronounced him dead at the scene

"It's sad I feel bad for the family and friends," says Bonita Medina a neighbor who lives close by.

Several neighbors said the home where the man was killed had a marijuana grow in the backyard and believe the shooting is drug related.

"The day before the guys were talking about how he owed money because he could get them a bunch of stuff to sell and he wasn't selling it," says one neighbor.

Swat units arrived on scene asking residents to stay indoors as they cleared homes so investigators could look for evidence and people who may be involved.

Police confirm the victims are neighbors.

Residents in this Stockton neighborhood say this type of violence has become far too common.

"It's not the kind of attention anyone wants, but it's here," says Dorian Whittemore.

"It's terrible I thought I lived on the good end of Kelley, but I guess there's no good end of Kelly Drive. It's just daily life in Stockton," says Medina.

The female victim was taken to a local hospital, she is expected to survive.

Stockton Police are asking for the public's help for any information about the suspect or suspects.
