DUI Suspect Crashes Into Police Cruiser, Injuring Officer

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (AP) - Orange County authorities say a police officer was hurt when a drunken driving suspect drove into opposing lanes of traffic and smashed his car head-on into a police cruiser in Garden Grove.

City News Service reports the officer was released from a hospital early Sunday after being treated for injuries to his left hand and face.

The DUI suspect, 21-year-old Alexander Berlimo, was hospitalized in unknown condition. He could face felony drunken driving charges.

Police say both vehicles suffered major damage in the collision shortly after 3:30 a.m.

It wasn't immediately known if Berlimo, a Stanton resident without a valid driver's license, has a lawyer.
