Driver killed in fiery crash on Franklin Boulevard near Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO COUNTY – A person has died after a fiery crash near Elk Grove on Tuesday morning.

The crash happened a little after 7 a.m. near Franklin Boulevard and Core Road.

California Highway Patrol said officers responded to the scene and found a sedan had crashed into a SMUD pole and then caught fire.

Exactly what led up to the crash is still under investigation, but officers believe the car was speeding down the roadway before it went down an embankment. 

Only one person was inside the vehicle. That person was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said. 

Due to the damage to the vehicle and extensive injuries, investigators said they haven't been able to identify the person yet.
