Driver In Carmichael SUV Crash Dies

CARMCIHAEL (CBS13) - The driver of an SUV that crashed and injured a child and teenager last week has died.

Police say 21-year-old Robert Briggs was seen speeding and driving erratically before the crash on El Camino Avenue and El Tonas Way in Carmichael. The SUV hit a power pole, a tree, a wall and another power pole before flipping.

Both passengers, both kids ages 7 and 14 respectively, were wearing seat belts, but a CHP spokesperson says a 7-year-old was not strapped in her booster seat.

Fire crews reportedly had to use to the Jaws of Life to get the passengers out of the vehicle.

Authorities said drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash.
