Driver Arrested After Chandler Accident Kills 1, Injures 2

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a driver is in custody in connection with an accident that killed a woman and injured her two young children as they were crossing a Chandler street.

Chandler police say 39-year-old William Joseph Epperlein has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury or death while driving on a suspended license.

They say an investigation is ongoing, but it appears Epperlein may have run a red light.

It wasn't immediately clear Sunday if he has a lawyer yet.

Police say the woman and her two children — ages 2 and 3 — were struck by a car Saturday evening.

All three were taken to a hospital, where the 35-year-old woman was pronounced dead.

Her children both are in serious condition.

Their names haven't been released by police.
