Dozens Of Former Refugees Sworn In As US Citizens In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – It was a special day for 50 former refugees on Thursday.

The group was sworn in as US citizens at a ceremony at the Sacramento Public Library.

Those gathered included immigrants from around the world, including Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

Before becoming citizens they had to demonstrate a committment to unifying principals and complete a number of requirements - including being of good moral character and having a knowledge of u-s goverment and history.

"I'm so excited. I dreamed about this day a long, long time," one new citizen said at the ceremony.

According to US Citizenship and Immigration Services, more than 700,000 people were naturalized in 2015.
