Dog That Spent Weeks On The Loose In Galt Near Freeway Finally Caught

GALT (CBS13) - A dog that was on the loose perilously close to Highway 99 has been captured safely, police say.

People have been reporting sightings of the German shepherd along the highway near C Street and Simmerhorn Road for the past three weeks.

Saturday, with the help of California Highway Patrol doing a traffic break, Galt Police Officer Sylvia Coelho was finally able to catch the dog.

The dog had a broken leg and was suffering from malnutrition and dehydration. She been taken to the VCA Bradshaw Animal Hospital and is recovering, police say.

Officers have named the dog "Freeway Frida."
