Dog Sniffs Out Puppies Abandoned At Northern California Park

PLEASANT HILL, Calif. (AP) -- Animal services officials say a couple walking their dog found three terrier puppies inside a closed and knotted trash bag dumped near a garbage can at a Northern California park.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the couple were walking their dog in Paso Nogal Park in Pleasant Hill when their Australian shepherd sniffed the pint-size terriers Monday.

Contra Costa Animal Services Deputy Director Rick Golphin says the good Samaritans took the puppies home, washed and fed them and then brought them to animal services.

Golphin says the 5-week-old dogs may get fostered before they go up for adoption because they are so young.
