Dog Missing In Texas After Flooding Found In Crescent City

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) - A year-old pit bull missing since May after Texas flooding has been found in California and the dog will be heading home.

Police in Crescent City, California, in September found the dog wandering and dropped the animal off at a shelter. Officials with the Del Norte County Animal Shelter say a microchip in the dog named Thor helped identify him in October.

The owner, Eddie Hurtado of San Marcos, and his family evacuated as the Blanco River swelled following Memorial Day weekend storms. They're still rebuilding and couldn't afford an estimated $1,500 to ship Thor home.

Authorities say a trucker from California has volunteered to haul Thor to San Marcos, 30 miles south of Austin.

Hurtado says he's not sure how his dog ended up 2,100 miles away in California.
