Dixon Teens Raise $3,500 For Classmate Left Paralyzed

DIXON (CBS13) – An army of Dixon High School students sold baked goods at the city's annual Christmas tree lighting festival to help a student in need.

Ivan Contreras, 16, was left paralyzed after a backyard accident. The Dixon High community decided to step forward to help get Ivan the money his family needs for a van that can accommodate his motorized wheelchair.

Organizers say they raised nearly $3,500 Thursday night during the bake sale, including a $1,000 donation from the Dixon Firefighters Association.

Ivan says he is determined to walk again and plans to go to college to become an orthopedic surgeon.
