District Attorney Candidate Arrested Twice In 24 Hours

LODI (CBS13) – Gary Hickey, a candidate running for San Joaquin County District Attorney, has been arrested twice over Memorial Day weekend.

The pair of arrests comes just one week before the election.

Hickey's most recent arrest was Saturday night, when police say he assaulted a 50-year-old woman that lives in his home off Fawnhaven Way.

The night before, Lodi Police arrested Hickey outside his home for public intoxication.

"The cops were here like three weeks ago, too," neighbor Shabnam Ismail said. "They were looking for him."

Ismail lives a few doors down from Hickey. She said that a few weeks ago, a woman from Hickey's home came to her looking for help.

"She came to my door and she told me he's chasing me and she pointed at him ... and she was leaving that way and he was behind her," Ismail said.

Investigators said the district attorney candidate has been investigated by police several times since last August and arrested at least four times since April – charged with a DUI, two different assaults and public intoxication.

CBS13 spoke to Jim Ferroni back in May. He accused Hickey of assaulting him to the point it dislocated his hip.

"He wacked me in the head first with a shoe," Ferroni said. "He rammed me right in the side."

We went by Hickey's home, but no one answered the door. But one neighbor we spoke to said she is concerned.

"It's really sad to me. He's a family friend, we've known him for 10 years," she said.

But, despite his recent run-ins with the law, some neighbors still have his campaign signs displayed in their yards.

The primary election happens on June 3, but many mail-in ballots have already been turned in.
