Deuce: Take The Train To Levi's Stadium

I'm not one who enjoys sitting in traffic so I decided that I'd take Amtrak Capitol Corridor train down to Santa Clara for the 49ers first regular season game at the new stadium.

I watched a lot of the early morning games before leaving Downtown Sacramento at 12:10 p.m. I arrived at Levi's Stadium just before 3 p.m. Sure, it took nearly three hours but I didn't have to deal with tapping my brakes, switching lanes and annoying drives. The postgame traffic leaving Levi's was brutal but I was on my train toward Sacramento by 9:36 p.m. and arrived downtown at 12:24 a.m.

Why take the train?

1. No traffic! You can sit back relax and enjoy the scenery.

2. You can drink! They offer beer including Lagunitas IPA—it comes in a 22 ounce bottle—and they also serve hard alcohol. You can grab some food on the train but it's not the best. The good news? You can bring your own food.

3. Plenty of room and cool cabins. The A/C was pumping and I was sitting back listening to the Raiders game on my phone.

4. Outlets-This may be a minor detail for some but I love the fact that I could charge my phone and iPad on the way down to the game.

What you should know:

Cost: $52.50 round trip.

Parking: You'll need to pay for parking at the Amtrak station or at a near by parking garage.

Wi-Fi: Amtrak says they have Wi-Fi on its trains but it's definitely shaky. It's an issue that they should look to improve because football fans want to check their fantasy football lineups along with the rest of the games going on in the NFL.

TVs: They don't have televisions on the train but a few wouldn't hurt especially for football fans who are on their way to the game.

All in all, it's definitely worth taking the train to a game. Amtrak offers discounted rates for travelers who attend a Raiders or 49ers game.
