Detectives: Suspect's Gun Jammed During Deputy-Involved Shooting In Carmichael

CARMICHAEL (CBS13) – Authorities have released more information on the deputy-involved shooting that killed a suspect Thursday afternoon.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, the man who deputies shot near Cypress and Garfield Avenues at had gotten out of his car at after a pursuit and pulled out a gun. The man then took cover behind his car and took a "shooting stance towards officers."

Investigators say the man – now identified as 36-year-old Adriene Jamarr Ludd – was armed with a Tec-22 semi-automatic handgun.

It appears the gun jammed as Ludd began to fire at deputies, detectives say.

Ludd was fatally shot by deputies. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another gun, a fully loaded .25 caliber pistol, was also found in his pocket.

Deputies say they first tried to pull over Ludd near Manzanita Avenue and Winding Way, but the car took off. The chase stopped for a time and one of the passengers got out and surrendered, but the car took off again before ending up at the Cypress Avenue location.

Three deputies were involved in the incident. None were injured. They have all been placed on paid administrative leave, per usual procedure following shootings involving law enforcement officers.
