Detectives: Robbery Of Elk Grove Walmart Was Inside Job

Editor's note: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported the robbery took place on March 16.

ELK GROVE (CBS13) - Police say the robbery of an Elk Grove Walmart was an inside job and two people have been arrested.

The alleged heist happened February 9 at the Walmart on Elk Grove Boulevard, just off of Highway 99. Elk Grove police say a suspect, 45-year-old Gilbert Smith, got into the store's cash room.

Using a copy of a management key, Smith walked inside the room where another employee, was working. Smith allegedly pulled out a gun handgun and then demanded money. The employee handed over the money and Smith took off.

Detectives first identified Smith as a suspect in the robbery, then connected his girlfriend, 33-year-old Shenita Barnes, to the heist. Barnes is a manager at the store, police say.

Smith was later arrested at his Sacramento home and Barnes was arrested at work.
