Detectives: Pot Growing Operation Spanned 4 Cities

MANTECA (CBS13) – Authorities have raided a drug operation that spanned four different Northern California cities.

According to the Manteca Police Department, authorities have been investigating a suspected large-scale marijuana growing ring after an anonymous tip of suspicious activity in the city. Detectives believe the ring spanned five locations in Manteca, Modesto, Elk Grove and San Jose.

Thursday, members of numerous different law enforcement agencies raided the locations.

In total, police say more than 1,500 marijuana plants were seized, along with 116 pounds of processed pot, a half-pound of meth and a $15,360 in cash.

The home in Manteca, where more than 900 plants were found, back up to a nearby elementary school.

Police also say a suspected meth lab was discovered in at the Elk Grove residence they raided.

Five people were arrested on numerous drug charges: San Jose residents Nga T Dang, 42, Binh Lam, 38, Thuylan Huynh, 35, and Modesto residents Uriel Castro, 39, and Noel M Vaca, 34.
