Detectives Pose As 13-Year-Old Girl, Arrest Suspect In Jail Parking Lot

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) – An unwitting suspect who thought he was meeting up with a 13-year-old girl was arrested Tuesday – in the parking lot of Placer County Jail, authorities say.

Detectives say they had been corresponding with 28-year-old Daniel Eugene Kirschner since Februrary. According to the Placer County Sheriff's Office, Kirschner had placed an ad online that he was looking for a girlfriend.

An undercover detective responded to Kirschner's ad. Detectives say that Kirschner continued to correspond with the operative, even after the "girl" revealed she was only 13-years-old.

Kirschner later agreed to meet up with the "girl" at the Placer County Jail Tuesday afternoon. The "girl" said would be at the jail for her mother's boyfriend's court appearance.

As soon as Kirschner showed up he was arrested and walked inside the jail on charges of communicating with a minor with the intent of committing a sexual act and attempted lewd and lascivious acts with someone under 14 charges.

Kirschner bailed out of jail Wednesday morning. His arraignment is set for Aug. 4.
