Deputy Injured In Altercation With Suspect At Arden Arcade Starbucks

ARDEN ARCADE (CBS13) - A deputy has been taken to the hospital after being injured during a struggle with a suspect late Tuesday afternoon.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says they originally got a call about a homeless person using drugs behind a dumpster along the 1500 block of Howe Avenue. While on their way to the scene, a security guard reported that the homeless person had entered a Starbucks in the area.

Deputies soon confronted the person inside the Starbucks, but the person refused to leave.

An altercation ensued while deputies tried to detain the person. One deputy was thrown to the ground and hit her head, causing her to momentarily lose consciousness.

The deputy has since been transported to the hospital for observation.

The person who fought with the deputies was later tazed and detained, officials say. He has only been identified as a 31-year-old man.
