Deputies: Ponderosa High Student Arrested After Bringing Loaded Gun To School

SHINGLE SPRINGS (CBS13) - Authorities say a student has been arrested after allegedly bringing a loaded gun to school on Thursday.

The arrest happened at Ponderosa High School. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to the school around 8 a.m. on a report of a student being detained for bringing a loaded firearm.

At the school, deputies arrested the student. No details about the student have been released.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

The El Dorado Union High School District released a statement to parents after the arrest:

There was a presence of law enforcement on the Ponderosa High School campus this morning, and we wanted to make sure you were aware of the circumstances - students and staff remained completely safe.

This morning, a male student was taken to the office where the School Resource Officer discovered that he was in possession of a loaded weapon. School officials and law enforcement immediately worked hand-in-hand to take the student into custody. The investigation has determined that there was no threat made to students or staff. An official press release will be made by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. These types of incidents are always taken very seriously.
