CBS News Sacramento

One person is dead and three others were injured after a Tesla went off an embankment in Nevada County Friday evening, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol responded to Highway 49 near the South Yuba River Bridge, finding that a Tesla had gone about 15 feet down an embankment.

Officers said a man from Grass Valley was driving the car with three juvenile passengers.

A juvenile boy died, authorities said. His identification has not been released.

The remaining three people in the car were taken to a hospital with major injuries. All of them are expected to survive.

Authorities said speed was a factor and that it was raining heavily during the time of the crash.

The road was not closed down.

The crash remains under investigation, including whether the car was in autopilot. Authorities said they need to retrieve data from the vehicle.
