Davis Prepares For Picnic Day Centennial
DAVIS (CBS13) – It's no doubt that Davis' Picnic Day centennial will be a big day, and police will be making sure that their presence is felt.
Over 75,000 people are expected to attend Saturday's event, organizers say. This year's theme is "100: A Timeless Aggie Tradition."
Police will be keeping a watchful eye on the 200-plus events scheduled for the day – as well as the unplanned festivities that take place later in the night. Dozens were reportedly arrested for public intoxication at last year's event.
UC Davis students we talked to are welcoming the extra police presence.
"I feel like the police are there to help us stay safe," said UC Davis student Amio Beck.
As with every Picnic Day, an eclectic schedule of events – from Doxie Derbies to a battle of the bands – is planned.
"Police want the families to have a good time and enjoy what the school is providing for them," said UC Davis student Nicole Nelson.
Davis Police have been preparing since January, officials say. Numerous agencies will be in Davis to assist.
