Davis Police Offer Tips To Avoid Wallet Theft

DAVIS, CALIF. (CBS13) -- The Davis Police Department reports an an uptick in wallet thefts during the months of July and August.

In each case, the theft took place at a grocery store, and the victim's wallet was removed from their purse while it was in a shopping cart.

The department has posted several tips to avoid becoming a victim of wallet theft on its Facebook page. They are listed below.

• Don't leave purses open or unattended in shopping carts. Victims reported thefts happening in less than 30 seconds.

• Carry your purse close to your body and keep your purse closed.

• Be wary of individuals that strike up conversations with you in an attempt to distract you from your belongings.

• Immediately report thefts to the police department and your financial institutions.
