Teen girls killed in Sloughhouse crash, 3 other teens injured
A solo-vehicle crash in Sloughhouse killed two teenage girls and injured three others just after midnight Sunday, the California Highway Patrol said.
Around 12:30 a.m., Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews responded to Scott Road, near Latrobe Road, and found a vehicle that was on fire after it had crashed into a tree.
The driver, a 16-year-old girl, and the front-right passenger, a 14-year-old girl, died in the crash. According to the CHP, there were three other passengers, and they were helped out of the vehicle by passing motorists.
The three passengers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The CHP said the three injured victims are Pleasant Grove High School students and identified the ages of two of them as 16 and 15. The third injured victim's age is not yet known.
Elk Grove Unified, in a statement on Sunday, said counselors will be at Elk Grove High, Albiani Middle, and Pleasant Grove High schools on Monday should any students or staff need them.
According to the CHP, speed appears to be a factor, and they are still investigating whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
